Hello. Duane here. We can finally say it out loud. Modern Art: Philippine Edition is real (and we are so happy!)
For months this lived in our group chats, in late-night calls, in mockups we were almost afraid to show. Now it exists, and we are still in that stage where we keep looking at the files and the prototypes just to make sure we are not dreaming. (Somebody pinch me!)
I have loved Modern Art, the iconic auction game by Dr. Reiner Knizia, since I entered the board game hobby. The idea that one day we would publish a Philippine Edition of Modern Art featuring Filipino artists always felt like a beautiful long shot. There was a moment during production when it almost joined the long list of projects lost in the labyrinth. That is the reality of publishing. Not every good idea reaches the table. So the fact that this one did makes it even more meaningful. (This is probably the reason why we actually cried when we received the digital printed proof.)
For the first time, this global masterpiece is reimagined through Filipino creativity. I truly believe, this is a landmark for the Philippine board game community.
The game features works by our National Artists Federico Aguilar Alcuaz, Larry Alcala, and Abdulmari Imao, together with Raul Lebajo and Juvenal Sansó. Even more special, this edition goes beyond paintings. You will encounter illustrations, sculptures, and tapestries. Every auction feels like walking through a playable gallery. Five distinct visual languages telling one shared cultural story from Luzon to Mindanao. (You might be asking, why these 5 artists, but that is a story for another day)
