Hey, friend, have you wondered whether you and your barkada think alike, because Herd Mentality is about to settle it? This Herd Mentality rules guide walks you through everything, from setting up to the Pink Cow. The big idea is backwards: standing out is the worst thing you can do, and fitting in with the group is how you win. You're racing to be the first player to collect eight cows, and you earn them by writing the same answer as the majority. Say the question is "What's the best ice cream flavor?" Your heart might say ube, but if you've got a feeling everyone else will write chocolate, the smart move is to follow the herd. Reading the room matters more than knowing the right answer, and that's what makes every round fun.

Setting Up
Herd Mentality works for 4 or more players, ages 10 and up.
1. Start by building the paddock, then drop the cow tokens and the Pink Cow inside it.
2. Choose one player to be the Question Wrangler, who plays like everyone else but also reads the question cards out loud and hands out the cows.
3. Give every player an answer sheet and a pen, and you're set.

How to Play Herd Mentality
1. Read the card. Every round starts when the Question Wrangler reads a question card out loud, something like "What's your favorite pizza topping?" These aren't trivia questions, because they're about what your group is likely to say, so listen closely and think about the table instead of yourself.
2. Write in secret. Everyone, Wrangler included, secretly writes an answer on their answer sheet without peeking. Here's the trick: don't write your favorite, write the answer your table would give, and if your tito always goes for the weird option, factor that into your answer. If someone's taking forever, you're all allowed to moo at them until they hurry up.
3. Reveal the answers. When everyone's ready, reveal your answers one by one, starting with the Question Wrangler, and expect laughing, groaning, and one person defending an answer nobody else would write, usually with great confidence. Nobody gets to change an answer once the reveal starts.
4. Collect your cows. Count up which answer showed up the most, because everyone whose answer is part of the majority wins one cow. Cows come as 1-cow and 3-cow tokens, so swap them whenever the bank runs low, and if two answers tie for the most common, nobody wins a cow that round.
Here's the twist that makes Herd Mentality unforgettable, and it all comes down to being the odd one out. If you're the only player whose answer doesn't match anyone else's, you have to add the Pink Cow to your herd, like the lone ube writer. But if two players each write something different from the group, nobody gets the Pink Cow.
You can keep collecting cows while you're holding her, but you can't win until you pass her on. That only happens when another player becomes the odd one out in a later round. It's a funny kind of pressure, because the player with the biggest herd at the table can still be the one sweating the most.
How Do You Win?
The first player to collect eight cows wins, as long as the Pink Cow isn't in their herd. That means a player on seven cows who's holding her can only hope someone else gives the odd answer. If more than one player reaches eight cows in the same round, the target becomes nine, and it keeps rising until one player is a single cow ahead.

Why Herd Mentality Is Such a Hit
Herd Mentality takes a minute to explain, and it works for family game nights and barkada hangouts alike. It's the one we reach for when the group is a mix of ages, because the questions reveal surprising things about the people you thought you knew. Maybe your tita turns out to be the best mind reader at the table, or the cousin who swears they're "not good at board games" keeps cashing in cows.
The Herd Mentality Travel Edition is easy to bring along on a family trip or staycation, so the fun doesn't have to wait for game night at home. If you love games you can pack anywhere, check out our guide to waterproof and travel-ready card games for more picks.
