The pancit tray is still going around, your tito has found the karaoke mic, the cousins are arguing over the last slice of lechon, and somebody is still yelling "Kain pa!" from the kitchen. That's exactly the moment a good board game saves the night.

If you're hunting for board games for the holidays, these four picks from The Gaming Library are easy to learn, loud in the best way, and friendly to everyone from lolo to the littlest cousin.

Why Bring a Board Game to the Holiday Table?

Filipino family gatherings get big fast, with lolos, lolas, parents, titos, cousins, and family friends all squeezed around one table, and not everybody wants the same thing after dinner. A board game gives everyone another way to hang out, whether they're serious gamers or the relative who always says, "Hindi ako marunong mag-board game." Pick one of these holiday board games, clear a little space after dessert, and let the table do the rest, no long rules lecture needed.

Anito: Wish Granters

Want to see what happens when your family has to communicate without saying a word? Anito: Wish Granters turns drawing into the main event, with one player as the wisher who draws a wish while the Anito players answer with drawn solutions of their own. The wisher picks the best one and hands out the points, and after three rounds, whoever has the most points wins.

The drawing doesn't have to be good, and honestly, the worse it gets, the better the table reaction. Picture your cousin confidently drawing a "perfect Christmas gift" while everyone else squints and guesses. It plays 3 to 8 players in about 20 to 30 minutes and is rated 14+, so save it for the older teens and adults who are ready for some creative chaos.

Sinigang

Some games ask you to bluff, but Sinigang asks a very important Filipino question: "Kakain na?" On your turn, you draw a card, peek at it, and decide whether to add it to the pot, give it to a family member, or call "Kakain Na!" If the pot totals 12 or more, you score two points, but if it doesn't, every other player scores one, and the first to five points wins.

The catch is that you never quite know whether the pot is ready, so call too early and you lose, and wait too long and someone beats you to it. It plays 2 to 4 players in 10 to 20 minutes, comes with English and Filipino rulebooks, and is rated 14+.

Slide: PH Edition

If you're looking for something the younger players can join too, Slide: PH Edition is quick, simple, and competitive without taking over the whole evening. Everyone builds a 4x4 grid of face-down cards, reveals one, then takes turns claiming a revealed card and sliding it into their grid to fill the gap they left. Matching numbers next to each other disappear, and the lowest score wins.

You can teach it in a minute and let everyone work out their own strategy as the grid changes. It supports 2 to 6 players, takes about 15 minutes, and is rated 7+, which makes it the most flexible pick here for a mixed-age holiday crowd. Just be warned that "one quick game" can easily turn into "Okay, last round!" three rounds later.

The Gang PH

If your gathering has older kids, cousins, or adults who like a little strategy, bring out The Gang PH. It’s a cooperative poker-style game where everyone quietly reads their own two-card hand and grabs a chip showing how strong they think it is compared with everyone else’s, with no talking and no hints allowed.

If the hands are revealed in the right order from weakest to strongest, the crew cracks a vault, and a wrong order sets off an alarm, so you win together by cracking three vaults before three alarms go off. It plays 3 to 6 players in about 20 minutes, includes English and Filipino rulebooks, and is rated 10+.

Ready for Your Next Family Game Night?

The best board games to play during the holidays aren't the ones with the biggest boxes or the most complicated rules. They're the ones that make people look up from their phones, pull another chair closer, and say, "Sige, ako naman!" Whether your table is full of longtime gamers or relatives who say they're not into board games, one of these four will get everybody involved. Skip the awkward "Ano gagawin natin pagkatapos kumain?" moment, pick a game, clear some space, and let the family rivalry begin.
