Every year, the global tabletop community looks toward Germany for the ultimate stamp of approval in board gaming. For anyone new here, the Spiel des Jahres (Game of the Year) is the absolute highest honor in our hobby. Winning that coveted red pawn doesn't just mean bragging rights... it puts a game on the map forever, sitting right alongside classics like Catan, Ticket to Ride, and our favorite cooperative blockbuster from last year, Bomb Busters.

Well, the jury has officially made their decision for 2026, and the top prize goes to a vibrant, laugh-out-loud party game that proves empathy and quick thinking are the ultimate winning strategy.

A massive, massive congratulations to Dito! (also widely known as Jinxo)!

Spiel des Jahres 2026 Winner: Dito! (Jinxo)

  • Designer: Martin Ang

  • Publisher: Game Factory / Tabletoys

  • Illustration: Stephanus Adrian

  • Player Count & Age: 3 to 7 players, ages 10 and up

If you love word association games but want something that rewards you for genuinely understanding how your friends' brains work, Dito! is about to be your next game night obsession.

The core loop is beautifully simple but packed with tension: players try to write down matching word associations based on clues. The real kicker? You have to balance thinking exactly like your friends while avoiding the traps that hand over easy points to the competition. It’s loud, highly interactive, and guarantees those unforgettable "I knew you were going to say that!" moments that scream across the table.

A Historic Win for Southeast Asia (and an ALL ABOARD EXPO Alum!)

This is a groundbreaking moment for our local tabletop community. We believe JinxO is the very first game designed and produced right here in Southeast Asia to ever win the prestigious Spiel des Jahres! Created by Martin Ang and published by Tabletoys alongside Game Factory, its victory on the world stage is an incredible milestone for SEA game design.

For those of you who hung out with us recently at the ALL ABOARD EXPO, this name might ring a loud bell. We were incredibly proud to feature JinxO in our library and demo areas, giving local players a chance to experience its magic firsthand.

In fact, you guys loved it so much that every single copy we brought to the EXPO completely sold out! If you missed your chance to grab a copy during the event, don't worry... with this massive win, we are already working on a restock coming very soon so you can get this historic champion to your own table.

The 2026 Competition

Just like last year when Bomb Busters had to fend off the massive social media buzz of Flip 7, the 2026 nominees list was stacked with incredible talent:

  • Cozy Sticker Ville (by Corey Konieczka / Unexpected Games): A wonderfully peaceful, tactile 1-to-6 player game featuring colorful sticker-placement mechanics.

  • Morty Sorty Magic Shop (by Markus Slawitscheck / Schmidt): A chaotic, fun-filled sorting game where cleaning up a magical shop proves that order is truly half the battle.

What About the Other Categories?

The Spiel des Jahres jury also crowned the winners for the Connoisseur and Children's categories, giving us a fantastic look at what to look out for this year:

Rebirth (2nd Edition) - Gaming Library

Kennerspiel des Jahres 2026 (Connoisseur Game of the Year)

  • Winner: Rebirth

  • Designer: Reiner Knizia (Frosted Games / Mighty Boards)

  • Illustration: Anna Przybylska and Kate Redesiuk

The legendary Reiner Knizia strikes again! Rebirth took home the top prize for enthusiast gamers, offering a masterclass in tile-placement strategy and beautifully rewarding long-term planning. It managed to beat out some seriously deep, crunchy contenders like Boss Fighters QR and Moon Colony Bloodbath.

Kinderspiel des Jahres 2026 (Children's Game of the Year)

  • Winner: Die Insel der Mookies (Mookie Island)

  • Designer: Florian Sirieix (Kosmos / Scorpion Masqué)

  • Illustration: Mélanie Bardin

An enchanting island duel designed for 2 children (ages 4 and up). It’s an absolute blast and took home the top prize, beating out tough junior competitors like Buh Party (Boo Party) and Verflixt verzaubert!

Our Take: What makes Dito! (Jinxo) such a deserving winner is exactly what we love most about this hobby—it strips away complex barriers and focuses entirely on human connection, laughter, and shared moments across the table. The fact that it hails from our very own region makes this victory taste so much sweeter.

We can't wait to keep supporting incredible localized talent and getting these award-winning hits onto your shelves. Make sure to keep your eyes glued to our social channels and sign up for our newsletter so you don't miss the incoming JinxO restock drop!

Did you get a chance to play JinxO at the ALL ABOARD EXPO or secure one of those sold-out copies? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below, and let's celebrate this massive win together!

Let’s play! 🥳
