RULES

General Rules

  • The tournament follows the official rules, which are found in the Summoner Wars 2E Rulebook and will apply the corrected errata cards found in the Card Adjustments page.
  • Moreover, unlike previous tournaments, we’ll follow the Lockout-style Base Decks format found in the Summoner Wars 2E Organized Play Guide (although slightly modified see Format). Custom Gaming Library rulesets are in effect for this tournament and override those on the OP Guide.
  • Before the tournament begins, Gaming Library will publish a bracket on Challonge, showing the route to the final. The bracket is public information and any player may ask to see their current standing in the tournament
  • On arrival, players must register and have their roster recorded. Each player is required to bring 3 different, officially-playable factions.
  • Please respect each other including the judges and organizers.
  • Please respect the judge’s decision.
  • Most Important Note: Have fun!

Format

  • We’ll follow the Base Decks format found on page 2 of the Organized Play Guide although slightly modified. Instead of bringing a number of factions equal to the number of rounds, players are only required to bring 3 factions, regardless of the number of  rounds.
  • If there are more than 8 players joining, we’ll have a 4th round where all factions are available to use again.
  • The tournament will follow the Swiss format. Players will be paired with other players with a similar tournament score while ensuring that they won’t be paired to the same players twice.
  • Byes will be considered as wins and is given to a random player in the first round and to the lowest ranking player beyond that. Moreover a player may never receive a bye twice
  • Ties will be broken up in the following order:
  1. Wins vs Tied Participants
  2. Median - Buchholz
  3. Points Difference

Regarding Errata

  • The tournament will make use of the printed major errata and minor errata only. The major errata includes the following changes below:
    • Sera Eldwyn (Vanguards): 3-strength. (Download pdf here.) Included in all High Elves faction decks.
    • Ice Ram (Polar Dwarves): Only triggers after forcing friendly structures. (Download pdf here.)  Can only force a common or champion unit. Included in all High Elves faction decks.
    • Kuldak (Fungal Dwarves): 12 life, and Blood Bloom modified to only add boost to cards that "were" within 2 spaces of Kuldak at the time of destruction (e.g. cannot boost a new unit via Infect or Fungal Transformation). (Download pdf here.) Included in all Deepwood Groaks faction decks.
    • Queen Maldaria (Phoenix Elves): Momentum ability removed. Call Protection changed not to trigger off of boosts, but rather at the end of an attack phase where Maldaria attacked an enemy card (not just units). May place any friendly common or champion (not just commons).  Save the Queen ability added: Friendly adjacent units cannot be attacked through or forced. (Download pdf here.) Included in all Deepwood Groaks faction decks.
  • Players are encouraged to have their cards updated by printouts inserted into their sleeves if they don’t have the updated cards that can be purchased from the High Elves or Deepwood Groaks faction decks.
  • A summary of the erratas will be provided during the tournament.
  • The players will be reminded of the corrections before the start of each match that involves the corrected card’s factions.
  • See Card Adjustments for more details

Registration

  • Players are encouraged to arrive at least 15 mins before the start time for registration (Players who have pre-registered to the tournament online will be requested to present their order number).
  • Players are required to declare their 3 chosen factions before the start of the tournament. They aren’t allowed to use any other factions aside from those 3.

Setup

  • A 10 minute setup period is given before each match for players to pick and set up their factions.
  • Players will present their remaining available factions at the start of the match.
  • Players will simultaneously choose one faction to play as.
  • Players will then flip a coin or roll a die. The winner gets to choose whether they go first or second.
  • Setup your factions as normal.

During the Match

  • A chess clock will be used. If a player’s time runs out, they lose immediately. The configurations are as follows:
    • Time Limit: 30 mins.
    • Increment: None
  • The timer must be paused during interactions which require the opponent’s decision. We request that players do not abuse this timer.
  • Feel free to call a judge if you need any rule clarifications. The timer must be paused during rule clarifications. There are no stupid questions.

Sudden Death: Each match is only expected to last 60 minutes and must end on schedule. Should a match exceed the end time for whatever reason (by pausing the clock during rule clarifications, etc.), we’ll have a sudden death round where each player will play 2-3 final turns until each play has; an equal amount of turns. The chess clock timer will still be active during this time.
