I recently flew to Cebu for a wedding (and to sneak a peek at the soon-to-open Gaming Library branch, of course!). While there, I went on a total food crawl and managed to hit two Michelin-selected spots: House of Lechon and Abli. It was sooooooy good.

But as usual, my brain is always wired for board games. Between bites of lechon, I realized: "Oh man, there are so many food-related games!" Who says food is only for eating? These top tabletop picks prove that meals are best served with a side of laughter, strategy, and friendly competition. Whether you’re managing a sushi kitchen or racing to prepare skewers, these games bring all the flavor without the calories.

Let’s taco 'bout the board games that will surely keep everyone coming back for seconds!

1. Taco Cat Goat Cheese Pizza (Philippine Edition)

This is the ultimate test of speed and silliness. Players chant the name while flipping cards, and when the spoken word matches the card, everyone slaps the pile. Miss it, and you’ll have to "guac" and roll with a whole new hand of cards.

The Philippine Edition adds some local zest with the Tarsier card. It’s easy to teach, quick to play, and perfect for when you need an energy boost. I know eating actual tacos and pizza while playing might get messy, but hey—that’s just extra "seasoning" for the fun!

2. Kushi Express Grand Master

If you love a dash of agility with your snacks, this expansion serves up a tasty mix of memory and dexterity. You’re a skewer chef racing to fulfill orders, but you have to build them in the exact right order. It really captures that frantic "Overcooked" energy!

Pro-tip: Host a Korean BBQ night, blast some K-Pop (maybe "Spicy" by aespa or "Butter" by BTS), and play this for the ultimate Hallyu-inspired game night. It’s a rare find that’s this much fun.

3. P for Pizza

Pizza makes everything better! This is a fast-thinking word game where you race to shout out answers that fit a category and a letter. It’s like Tapple, but more geometric. The first to build a full "slice" of a pyramid wins.

It’s one of my favorite party games because it keeps everyone yelling in the best way possible. Any way you slice it, it’s a winner for families and non-gamers alike.

4. Munch Mime (パクモグ)

This quirky Japanese gem from Jelly Jelly Games was a hit at the ALL ABOARD EXPO. Players use facial expressions and gestures to "munch" on imaginary food while others guess what it is. It’s charades, but make it delicious!

Since you’re already guessing, why not have a mystery potluck? Everyone orders a surprise dish from a restaurant they love, and you guess the meal while you play!

5. Point Salad

If you’re looking for something fast, fresh, and endlessly customizable, Point Salad is the perfect "side dish" for your game night. In this card-drafting game, there are over 100 ways to score points. Every card has a vegetable on one side and a scoring rule on the other—do you take the carrots for a flat point bonus, or grab the onions to multiply your score later? It’s a literal "salad" of strategies!

The Perfect Snack: A crisp Garden Salad with Roasted Nuts. It stays true to the theme and keeps your energy up without the "food coma" that heavy snacks bring.

6. Sushi Go!

Sushi Go! takes the "conveyor belt sushi" experience and turns it into a high-speed card game. You’re drafting the best combinations of sushi dishes as they whiz by. Will you hoard Sashimi for a big payout, or dip your Nigiri in Wasabi to triple its value? Just make sure to leave room for Pudding at the end, or you might see your lead slip away!

The Perfect Snack: Edamame with Sea Salt. They are the ultimate finger food—easy to pop in your mouth between turns, and they won't leave your cards greasy or sticky.

7. Sinigang

A true local favorite, Sinigang (the board game) captures the tension and timing of cooking the perfect Filipino pot. You’ll work with other players to add ingredients, but the goal is to be the one who calls "Kakain Na!" at just the right moment. If the pot is perfectly sour, you win big—but if it's lacking that signature zing, you might lose your seat as the "Supreme Ruler of the Sour."

The Perfect Snack: Pork Cracklings (Chicharon) with Spicy Vinegar. It mimics that satisfying crunch and sour kick that makes a bowl of Sinigang so iconic.

Fun Food Fact: Sinigang was named the "Best Soup in the World" by TasteAtlas in 2021! While tamarind is the most famous souring agent, traditional versions across the Philippines also use guava, kamias, batuan, or even watermelons to get that perfect pucker.
