Our headline Unmatched event in August 2025 showcased the Thrill O’ Thirty format — where only the latest 30 fighters were legal. This restriction forced players into bold drafting decisions and opened the stage for Volume 3 newcomers, Marvel heroes, and recent legends to prove their worth.
The stakes were high, the bans were brutal, and the top players delivered.
Winner Highlights
-
James (4–0, Champion) – The only undefeated player. James ran a diverse set of picks (Tomoe Gozen, Ciri, Yennefer & Triss) and proved that clean fundamentals plus sharp draft reads beat raw power. His final round win over Onie’s Golden Bat sealed a perfect record.
-
Taj (3–1) – The Volume 3 believer. Taj brought Dr. Jill Trent and Chupacabra into the spotlight, showing that these newcomers can go toe-to-toe with the crowd favorites.
-
Noel (3–1) – Surprised many by using Chupacabra and the underrated Wayward Sisters to claw out big wins.
Meta Takeaways
-
Doctor Strange & Yennefer & Triss = Priority Powerhouses
These two were almost always banned and, when played, felt overwhelming. Strange’s toolkit and Yennefer & Triss’s oppressive tempo warped matchups. -
Blackbeard was still feared, but manageable
While heavily banned, when he did sneak through, he often fell — Taj’s Dr. Jill Trent and Onie’s Blackbeard both had mixed success. -
Volume 3 Fighters Making Noise
-
Chupacabra went positive in Noel and Taj’s hands, forcing respect in bans and proving it’s not just a gimmick pick.
-
Pandora continued to struggle under pressure, rarely closing out games.
-
Loki had highlight moments (Zed), but was inconsistent.
-
-
Golden Bat & Ancient Leshen = Volatile
Both saw heavy play but were high-risk/high-reward. Golden Bat especially was a ban magnet but often lost when left open. -
Underrated Success: Tomoe Gozen
James leaned on her in multiple rounds, proving that patience, precision, and well-timed bursts can carry games even in this cutthroat pool.
The Most Banned Fighters
The ban phase was the real battlefield. Across the tournament, the following fighters were banned most:
-
Yennefer & Triss – near-automatic bans.
- Golden Bat – feared for explosive potential, but didn’t always deliver.
-
Doctor Strange – sorcery toolkit too efficient to leave unchecked.

Closing Notes
The Thrill O’ Thirty format proved to be the shakeup the competitive scene needed. With the newest fighters forced into the spotlight, we saw Chupacabra and Dr. Jill Trent punch above expectations, while Yennefer & Triss and Doctor Strange reaffirmed their places at the top.
But the biggest story is James — the only undefeated run, winning with a measured mix of old and new, and claiming the title of Thrill O’ Thirty Champion.
