In The Quacks of Quedlinburg, players are charlatans — or quack doctors — each making their own secret brew by adding ingredients one at a time. Take care with what you add, though, for a pinch too much of this or that will spoil the whole mixture!
Each player has their own bag of ingredient chips. During each round, they simultaneously draw chips and add them to their pot. The higher the face value of the drawn chip, the further it is placed in the swirling pattern. Push your luck as far as you can, but if you add too many cherry bombs, your pot explodes!
At the end of each round, players gain victory points and also coins to spend on new ingredients to add to their bags. But players with exploded pots must choose points or coins — not both! The player with the most victory points at the end of nine rounds wins the game.
I was waiting for this game to go on sale during the Lazada 11.11 event and unfortunately it becomes out of stock before I got it. Good thing Gaming Lib still had a copy on their website.
The game is very light and the rules are an easy read. So after playing a heavy game, this is a good palette cleanser.
The game also has a different feel. There aren't too many bag-building games out there, and this is a welcome change of pace in terms of game mechanics.
I also like the variability of each game with the different selections of game boards. You can mix and match each so that different strategies can win you the game.
Overall, the game is simple but a lot of fun. I highly recommend this game.
This game requires some strategy but is casual enough to play after a long day of work. Drawing blindly gives another dimension of entertainment especially when one’s luck is super bad or super good. The different books also help give variety to the game.
