Dead of Winter

Regular price ₱3,400.00

Dead of Winter puts 2-5 players together in a small, weakened colony of survivors in a world where most of humanity are either dead or diseased, flesh-craving monsters.

Each player leads a faction of survivors with dozens of different characters in the game. It is a story-centric game about surviving through a harsh winter in an apocalyptic world. The survivors are all dealing with their own psychological imperatives but must still find a way to work together to fight off outside threats, resolve crises, find food and supplies, and keep the colony's morale up.

Dead of Winter has players making frequent, difficult, heavily- thematic, wildly-varying decisions, that often have them deciding between what is best for the colony and what is best for themselves.

Lots of Fun, Very Challenging, But Long Set Up

It is a great game. It really gets you thinking because it feels rigged for you to lose anyways. It always makes us feel bad when there is a traitor, but not even the traitor wins. This game really makes you think like you're in a zombie apocalypse. The pieces are outstanding and the game mechanic is done pretty well. Our only problem with the game is the long set up before actually playing the game.

As Fun as How You Make It

This game was quite popular at the time because it rode on a hype machine last year. A few months after my purchase though, I am beginning to see flaws. DoW is a great game, but it isn't perfect. And if there was ever a question why one *shouldn't* buy this game then I can offer a few arguments: 1) Unbalanced Objectives. Sometimes your objective is either first-turn easy or impossibly hard. For the latter, it's just more logical to get yourself Exiled early which ruins it for everyone else. In betrayal games, this can be a **** move as it isn't playing to your obj, but this game leaves the alternate wincon open to anyone. 2) Easy to Lose on Purpose. A traitor can easily win. Simply forget about planning anything for the whole game then in the 2nd to the last 2 turns, eat all the food and max the waste pile then get you or others bitten. Because of how easy it is for morale to plummet, there is no safety net that stops a disruptor from really causing trouble. 3) Lackluster Crossroads. Way too situational. And often times the choices do not really tip any balance. 4) It's Battlestar Galactica w/ Zombies. The only thing DoW's got going for is its zombie theme. BSG equalizes objectives, does tension with betrayal better, and prevents extreme Trolling by limiting the traitor's moves. So in conclusion, the game's fun comes from how you choose to manage it: Prevent metagaming with objectives, roleplay the crossroads and characters, and do not make it easy for the troll.

Its that TV show

If you're a fan of The Walking Dead TV series, then you'll love this game. This game is full of tense drama, and a little bit of comedy on the side. Basically just like the TV series the zombies aren't the main focus on this games its the interactions and the decision you make to help you're group and within the group there is also tension because there is a probability also of a traitor among you. I strongly recommend to have a group that follows directions not to show other players their cards, since again that traitor mechanic becomes less if one player wants to prove he's not a traitor by showing his card, that just kills it XD. Otherwise the theme and the feel of the game really is great, and that you really get to the edge of the seat especially if you have 4-5. Well another great game by plaid hat, see you in the post apocalypse winter.
